Like most innovations, it started out with a simple dilemma

When our founder Esben started developing our land-based systems for seaweed cultivation, he started out with the traditional approach - deep, quadratic tanks and wide, shallow raceways. But he soon realized how limiting that design really was (especially when depending on LED): taking up too much space and having too little control of the important parameters.
So, he turned it upside down - literally.

That was the beginning of Pure Algae’s vertical photobioreactor technology, designed to make the most of every inch of space. By using height instead of area, our systems provide uniform light exposure and higher yields per square meter - all within a compact and controlled environment.

Today, that same idea enables our customers to grow more seaweed - on a consistent basis - with much less space. On top of this, our systems are very intuitive, as well as easy to install and manage – something that has been, and continually is, a main priority for our product development.
